Film and Tape

Does it still have a place in today's technical world?

These days, there is more and more emphasis on digital technolgy to capture both still and moving images. In home recording, the VHS machine is now very much yesterday's hero, and is stepping aside as dvd and hard disc recording take its place. In photography, apart from the professional and purist photographers, much of the world's photos are being taken by digital cameras, with the image information being stored on a memory card.

Will Film and Tape stick around?

The answer seems to be yes. At least for a while yet. Digital can be too perfect. Who wants to go to a movie and see an image that is just too sharp? Just to make a point, some movie companies have been experimenting using the latest digital technology to shoot some of their movies. Now they're putting filters across the product to make them "look" like film. Maybe with the World's supply of silver (a major ingredient in film) slowing down causing the cost of film to increase dramatically, it's the bottom line that's the motivating factor, and not the quality.
